For the benefit of all of us, I encourage you to respect the following rules, guidelines and recommendations.
Jana’s rules, guidelines and recommendations
Rules:
- Please come to your yoga practice 15 minutes early to get changed, calm down and arrange your yoga mat.
- Latecomers will not be able to join the class, neither will any fees be reimbursed or missed classes credited.
- Please bring your yoga mat, two yoga blocks, a yoga strap and a small towel.
- Appropriate clothing: Men: T-shirt and shorts. Women: T-shirt, leggings or shorts.
- No liquids during the yoga class.
- Please do not ask any questions during the practice in order not to disturb the others. You can ask questions after the class.
- Please do not talk and switch off your mobile phone during the class. It is strictly prohibited to answer the phone during the class.
- Observe and get to know your skills, do not overdo it. Practise properly. At first, you might feel some discomfort which, however, can be described as a “healthy” pain as the body is not used to practising yoga, the muscles, as well as the joints open up due to being stretched. Respect your body!
- Listen carefully to the instructor and respect all instructions. You yourself are responsible for any injuries.
- We do not offer free trial lessons.
Guidelines, recommendations, advice:
- Drink 2 glasses of water (room temperature) after getting up and shower with warm water. Your body will be more flexible. You may drink black coffee in the morning, however there should be 30 minutes between your last intake of liquid and your yoga practice. Come on an empty stomach.
- Do not drink any cold liquids directly after the practice. Wait 30 minutes and then it is best to drink water (room temperature). Only then should you eat.
- You need to be collected and alert when practising the asanas, being focussed is essential. Should you feel any pressure, strain or pain during the practice, focus on that part of the body and breathe normally. If you detect such changes, you will have quicker results.
- Should you feel discomfort, however a healthy pain, try not to react negatively. First, accept the discomfort, then direct your breathing on eliminating it. If you react negatively to the discomfort, it will only intensify.
- Keep a positive mindset during the practice. Do not think about the future, planning or the past. In short, the mind is focussed only on the moment of the practice.
- Never hold your breath, unless and when your instructor advises otherwise.
- Instead of pain killers to relieve sore muscles, we recommend you to drink warm milk with a teaspoon of turmeric before bed. You can add a bit of honey or sugar.
- Practising regularly is very important. In order to achieve ideal results, you can also practise twice a day.
- Yoga is not just about flexibility. A simple asana with proper alignment and awareness will bring you better results.
- To master an asana means being able to stay in the asana for a longer period of time without any effort. Asana is the journey from the outside to within to complete awareness.
